Everyone and their mother’s mother has an opinion on the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE reboot that Warner Bros. is currently prepping, but the most interesting reactions are going to come from the stars of the television series. Nicholas Brendan, who played the lovably hapless Xander on the show, was contacted by E! Online for his take on the update, and he none-too-surprisingly doesn’t seem to be a fan:
“You know, listen…I think it’s a mistake, I think that it’s trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it’s going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think.”
Brendan also wisely quipped: “I hope their vampires don’t glitter.”
While I’m pretty sure the producers won’t be making that mistake, I’m sure the temptation to rekindle Buffy’s romance with hunky vampire Angel – or a character similar to the benevolent vampire – is strong indeed. But goddamn, it had better not be some sappy crap in the sickly vein of TWILIGHT.
