Indie autuer John Cameron Mitchell, who has given us such eccentric novelties as HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH and the borderline-porno SHORTBUS, is currently doing the press circuit for his heavy drama RABBIT HOLE starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. It’s one of those flicks that looks like it’s so sad and depressing that it just must be an awards contender. Perhaps that’s what’s leading Mitchell toward something a bit more unusual, such as a team-up with British writer Neil Gaiman…
In an interview with IndieWire, Mitchell revealed that he’s working with Gaiman on a film version of the author’s short story HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES. The plot concerns a couple of guys who decide to an all-girl party only to discover that these weird chicks are literally from another planet. (You can see an illustrated drawing of the “girls” above.)
Sounds like fun, and with Mitchell’s offbeat sensibilities teaming with Gaiman’s striking visual imagination we should get, at the very least, quite the strange little flick. Mitchell will supervise the adaptation with a British writer, though there’s no timetable for the production just yet.
