This may turn out to be strictly in the horror/thriller genre, but if it’s Chan-Wook Park, it’s got to be mentioned. The director of OLDBOY, the SYMPATHY FOR… movies and THIRST looks like he’s circling his first English-language film: STOKER.
We told you about STOKER back in July; the project made some headlines because it was written by “Prison Break” star Wentworth Miller and had already attached Jodie Foster and It Girl du jour Carey Mulligan. Not only that, Ridley and Tony Scott jumped on board to produce, and Fox Searchlight ended up being the studio with the rights. So obviously, it’s a hot item, and now it may have found its director in Park.
STOKER tells the story of an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.
Intriguingly, Miller (under the pseudonym Ted Foulke) has another script in play called UNCLE CHARLIE, a prequel to STOKER; it explores another chapter in the history of an unusual family that has a knack for burying secrets, as well as bodies.
Park is still just “in talks” to direct at the moment; we’ll let you know if he actually signs on the dotted line.
