Jean-Claude Van Damme to star in Dark Castle’s Dragon Eyes?

We’ve all missed Jean-Claude Van Damme, that’s indisputable. (Don’t dispute!) The man seemed on the verge of a comeback a few years ago with JCVD, when he showed the world that – holy shit! – he can actually act when inspired to do so. A most excellent way to capitalize on that newfound relevance would have been to take on a role in Sly Stallone’s THE EXPENDABLES, but as we all know, he turned it down because he didn’t want to go BOOM BOOM BOOM. So Van Damme has seeming gone back to churning out the straight-to-DVD stuff that he’d been relegated to for years…

But now, maybe things really will turn around. According to What’s Playing, mega-producer Joel Silver is apparently interested in bringing Van Dammage aboard a new action film that he’s producing via his Dark Castle shingle. The flick, called DRAGON EYES, is set to star superstar kickboxer Cung Le, is yet another reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic YOJIMBO, and tells of a young man who discovers that New Orleans is inundated with corrupt law enforcers. In an effort to thwart the corruption, he teams with the gangs that have wrongly accused of the crimes the cops have pinned on them.

Van Damme would allegedly play a supporting role in the film, which will be directed by John Hyams, who already worked with Van Damme on UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION… Hopefully we’ll hear more about this flick soon, as well as a confirmation on JCVD’s participation.
