Given the blurry text on the new one-sheet for Manuel Carballo’s EXORCISMUS (aka THE EXORCISM OF EMMA EVANS), I’m calling this sucker out as AFM sales art. No biggy, it seems most of our news this week derives from the annual acquisition gala…so why stop now?!?
No doubt redolent of both THE EXORCIST, THE LAST EXORCISM and even THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, Filmax is clearly intent on parlaying the success of those films toward their very own. Obviously it’ll never touch Bill Friedkin’s 1973 masterpiece…so where it falls between the other two titles really becomes the question (LAST EXORCISM is said to have a great start and an all time let down ending, EMILY ROSE, well…)
Hoping to land distribution, THE POSSESSION OF EMMA EVANS (EXORCISMUS) follows Fifteen-year-old Emma Hawkins, who, like any other teenage girl, thinks that her parents don’t understand her. She longs for independence and a life free of family ties and responsibilities and she is prepared to do anything to achieve it. But one day she will be forced to face up to the consequences of her actions.
Life seems to be carrying on as normal, until one day Emma starts experiencing frightening fits. Her parents are convinced that her problems are either medical or psychological, but when doctors´ tests are unable to draw any conclusions, the family is forced to look elsewhere for answers.
Sophie Vavasseur, Doug Bradley, Tommy Bastow, Stephen Billington, Brendan Price, Richard Felix, Jo-Anne Stockham and Claudia Costas all take part.
