It’s been less than a day since the news came out that SILENT HILL 2 was being shopped around AFM like a 19th Century whore (that last bit is my own), and now there’s already a major update regarding the flick: Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Michael J. Bassett will be writing and directing the SILENT HILL sequel, which is called SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS. It will be filmed in 3D.
Bassett, in case the name doesn’t ring a bell, was the man behind SOLOMON KANE, a movie which I had all but forgotten about. He also directed a little piece of survival horror called WILDERNESS, which I found to be quite watchable. Doesn’t seem to be a bad choice at all. (It would appear that Roger Avary, who wrote the first film and was scheduled to write the second, is no longer involved.)
In addition to the director news, a synopsis has been exposed – It’s a revelation! The sequel follows Heather Mason and her father, who have been on the run – always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now, on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
Guess Radha Mitchell won’t be returning…
