Back in September, Jakey D brought you all an update on a project called ZOMBIES VS. GLADIATORS, which is about… exactly what it sounds like. The project is still just a spec script being tossed around town, as far as we know, but if it doesn’t hurry up, it’s going to be the second bizarre “Gladiators Vs…” flick in town.

During my web-surfing adventures, I stumbled upon this monster: GLADIATORS VS. WEREWOLVES: EDGE OF EMPIRE. (Does it really need the subtitle?) You can see the concept art to the right and it tells you everything you need to know. Still, if you need more, check out the informative synopsis below:

The Romans occupy Britannia and Hadrian’s Wall divides the land, built to keep back the warrior tribes of Caledonia, and something far more dangerous; savage wolf-like creatures which roam the lowlands.

Word reaches Governor Flavius that the Emperor has decreed that new, more fearsome beasts should be captured for the games. The ambitious Governor, having heard rumours of the fierce wolf-beasts beyond the great wall, senses an opportunity to win favour with the Emperor and even a place in the senate.

The heroic Centurian, Titus, is tasked with hunting and trapping the wolf-creatures. Titus and his legionaries track the beasts to their mountain lair and discover a warrior clan who transform at will into mighty, armour clad werewolves. In a fierce battle, the beasts slaughter half of the legionaries. Titus and his surviving men escape and ensnare the pursuing werewolves.

It goes on from there, but I think you get the idea: Gladiators vs. Werewolves!

Rob Green, who last helmed the WWII-set horror film THE BUNKER, another project that combined past events with supernatural horrors, is directing; Angrad Paul, who produced Guy Ritchie’s SNATCH and the UK comedy LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS, is listed as a producer; Vic Bateman, producer of DOG SOLDIERS, is on board as well. Quite a team, let’s see if this thing really gels!
