The team behind Open Water moves into a ghostly Silent House

Back in January we brought you the spooky teaser for THE SILENT HOUSE, the Uruguayan horror fest that supposedly goes down in one continuous shot. (There must be few hidden cuts in there, though, as the flick was shot using a Canon photo camera.) Looking like a third-person [REC], the flick’s certainly has atmosphere to spare and a creepy set-up so – of course – the time has now come to remake the shocker for American audiences.

THE SILENT HOUSE centers on a young woman who visits her family’s isolated summer home – where some brutal murders once took place – with her father and uncle. However, they soon learn they are not alone in the house…

French sales outfit Elle Driver will fully finance the remake, which is being directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, helmers of the indie horror hit OPEN WATER. (I was wondering whatever happened to these two…) It stars Elizabeth Olsen, the forgotten Olsen sister (no joke) and is already in production. The director of photography of the fantastic documentary MAN ON WIRE, Igor Martinovic, is handling the camera work, and the film is scheduled to be done by next year.

Kentis and Lau say they were “fascinated by this question of how we could explore the events leading to these brutal murders and make audiences feel as though the story is happening to them – that it is real.” They also claim that the film will indeed be one continuous shot with no cuts. Still rather dubious on that point, but it’s all good; as long as THE SILENT HOUSE gives me the willies, I’ll be satisfied…
