David O. Russell ditches Pride and Prejudice and Zombies due to schedule?

Depending on your opinion of the man, this could be viewed as good or bad news…

Remember back in August when we ran a piece about director David O. Russell picking up the reins on the PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES adaptation? Remember how absolutely thrilled Natalie Portman sounded at the prospect of working with the man? Well, all that’s for naught, apparently…

Vulture is reporting O. Russell has pulled the ripcord from the project, citing Portman’s inability to meet his slated start-schedule as the primary reason. He’ll now jump on the Chole Moretz band wagon and direct the young tyke in the Vince Vaughn flick OLD ST. LOUIS.

So what about PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES? Your guess is as good as ours. The Seth Grahame-Smith horror comedy has been making the big and small screen pre-production rounds for the last two years or so. Hopefully the thing gets made sooner than later, ideally with Portman still in the lead. I kinda feel like she got a raw deal on this one…wish I was there to pick up the pieces for the poor dame…

But what do you all say? Was O. Russell the right man for such material anyway? Is there a director you’d rather see helm this project instead?
