Andrew Niccol’s currently casting sci-fi thriller, once known as I’M.MORTAL, has apparently lost its cleverly punned titled just as it gained another two actors.
According to Variety, “Mad Men’s” Vincent Kartheiser (seen right) has signed on to the space-set thriller, playing Amanda Seyfried’s father. Say what now?
Damn, who else feels old now? Normally I’d relish the opportunity to etch an article about the lovely Ms. Seyfried (best eyes in the biz, yo!), but how in the hell is a dude 6 years her senior (and 4 years my own) playing her father. Make believe, sure, but that just doesn’t seem right. Uh, in any way…
Kartheiser joins Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy, Shyloh Oostwald, Elena Satine (rumored) and the newly added Collins Penny. Kartheiser will play the father of Seyfried’s character, “who is forced to choose between the daughter he loves and the oppressive time system that has made him rich.” Penny will portray second in command to Murphy’s “Timekeeping” Raymond Leon.
Here’s how the New Regency thriller shapes up:
Set in the not-too-distant future, the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality.
Storyline follows a rebel from the ghetto (Timberlake) who is falsely accused of murdering a wealthy man for his time, and goes on the run with a beautiful hostage (Seyfried).
Niccol’s film should release sometime next year.
