Charlize Theron had at one point planned on producing and starring in a remake of SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEACE – a plan that appears to be as good as dead. (I’m not complaining…) That’s not stopping the Oscar-winner from trying out another remake, however; according to the Hollywood Reporter, Theron has optioned the rights to writer/director Elbert van Strien’s ghostly thriller TWO EYES STARING (aka ZWART WATER).

The original film did the fest rounds and premiered in its native Holland in March, to some decent buzz. Back in May, the Twitter page for the production company, Accento Films, had the following message: First meetings in Hollywood.. Even interest from a big movie star… Well, all these months later, guess things turned out okay for the flick. (As I assume it’s okay in their eyes to have the movie remade.)

In TWO EYES STARING, nine-year-old Lisa discovers her sinister new friend is the ghost of the dead twin of Lisa’s mother. Then Lisa’s father also begins to suspect his wife of hiding a terrible secret, resulting in deadly consequences…

Theron’s team is meeting with A-list directors in a push to move this remake forward. Lord know she needs it – when the hell was the last time Theron even starred in anything? The Oscar curse obviously claimed another…
