IFC’s Midnight Movie division continues its impressive acquisition slate, as a total of seven new genre titles out of Austin’s Fantastic Fest have been scooped up by the network. Four titles from this year’s gala, three from last year’s fest…allow us to clue you in to what we’ll be seeing through IFC’s VOD outlet…
Included in this year’s showcase, to screen simultaneously nationwide via VOD (from Sept. 20-23rd):
Philip Ridley’s HEARTLESS: About Jamie Morgan, a young man with a large heart-shaped birthmark on his face, who discovers that there are demons on the streets of East London. More succinctly, Morgan makes a pact with the devil and ends up fighting for his soul.
Abel Ferry’s HIGH LANE: A group of friends on vacation decide to venture onto a trail high up in the mountains that has been closed for repairs. The climb proves more perilous than planned. Especially as they soon realize that they’re not alone. The adventure turns into a nightmare.
Josh Reed’s PRIMAL: Primordial nature runs amuck in a smartly played, scripted, spectacular slice of neo Ozploitation. 12,000 years ago a caveman tried to communicate the presence of an unknown primal entity only to be devoured by the Neanderthal evil. Now six friends on a field trip set up camp in the same remote wilderness.
Simon Rumley’s RED, WHITE & BLUE: Follows the cool, emotionless Erica, who dives into bed with any man she meets. When she is offered a job in a DIY store in Austin, she discovers the kindness of strangers, but also the gruesome shadowy side of it.
IFC also picked up the rights to three films that screened at Fantastic Fest last year. They are Tom Six’s THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE, Kim Ji-Woon’s THE GOOD THE BAD THE WEIRD and Jake West’s DOGHOUSE.
These titles will be available in about 40 million homes via Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable and Bright House.
