Christian Slater is set to star in an indie thriller called PLAYBACK, reports Variety. While it might be a step above DOLAN’S CADILLAC, it sure doesn’t seem like it’ll help the one-time star’s continually foundering career. Hell, he’s already appeared in a Direct-to-DVD flick with Cuba Gooding, Jr. That’s the kiss of death right there. (Or was that ALONE IN THE DARK..?)

Here’s the PLAYBACK synopsis, via IMDb: When a group of high school students dig into their town’s infamous past they unwittingly unlock an Evil that corrupts and destroys them. Possessing its victims through video playback and using them for malevolent purposes, it closes in on one specific soul, threatening to expose the town’s deepest, darkest secret.

Slater will play a sinister cop, who is apparently the one close to exposing the deep, dark secret.

The flick, which just commenced shooting in Michigan, also stars Johnny Pacar, Toby Hemingway, Jonathan Keltz, Alessandra Torresani, Ambyr Childers, and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell. Michael A. Nickles is at the helm.
