Not that this particular story reeks of AITH necessity, but how can anyone eschew a story involving perennial lookers Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman? Add to that the always impressive Alfonso Cuaron, not to mention the gruff charm of one Bob Downey Jr. – and voila…we’ve got ourselves a fascinating development. Peep it…
Remember last month when we ran a story about Angelina Jolie (right) dropping GRAVITY, the sci-fi thriller to be helmed by Alfonso Cuaron (CHILDREN OF MEN, Y TU MAMA, TAMBIEN)? Remember how we heard Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively’s names bandied about as replacements? Well, 86 all that noise…as it looks like Natalie Portman (below) is now the one being shot into orbit.
Hot on the heels of an incendiary performance in Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN (currently culling Oscar buzz), Portman has become the frontrunner to headline the 3D space-set chiller for Warner Bros. (so reports THR).
Portman, who is said to have been very interested in portraying Lisbeth Salander in the American version of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, even went so far as trying to purchase the book series (Rooney Mara ultimately won the role). Hopefully, between BLACK SWAN and GRAVITY…Portman will get the just due she deserves.
For those in the clouds, GRAVITY revolves around astronauts repairing the Hubble telescope who are hit with an avalanche of satellite junk. In a plot akin to “Cast Away,” the surviving astronaut must fight her way back to Earth, where she hopes to reunite with her daughter.
So let’s hear it…you in favor of a Portman/Downey/Cuaron trio…or would you rather see another leading lady in the role?
