After a long-winded worldwide search, David Fincher has finally found his Lisbeth Salander. Her name is Rooney Mara!

Of course, I’m referring to the titular lead in the all but unnecessary redo of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, which is due in early winter of next year. Mara (pictured), who was last seen (and frankly lambasted for) giving a wooden performance in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, apparently won the role over a threesome of upcoming international actresses, as well as Hollywood A-listers Carey Mulligan, Ellen Paige and Mia Wasikowska.

Far be it from me to question Fincher, but I sure hope the dude’s right about his decision…then again, Fincher ain’t really known for mining Oscar caliber performances, is he (trivia: how many Oscar nominated performances has he directed? How many won?)

But let’s hear it from you. Surely you don’t think Mara is the right choice, do you? If not, why not? If so, give us your argument.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO comes out December 21st, 2011.
