Before I get to this here bit of news, I feel the need to re-plug that awesomely violent clip we saw from THE EXPENDABLES yesterday. That shite was too damn hard!
Now on to THE EXPENDABLES 2. Over a year ago it was said by producer Ari Lerner that the throwback 80s action flick had serious potential to become a franchise. And while we still need to see how well Sly’s newest outing performs at the box-office (remember, the flick cost $80 million to make), it seem Sly is already conjuring ideas for the possible follow up. Check it…
Speaking with the L.A. Times, Sly said:
“If this does perform, I think it will open a little more liquidity in funding the sequel…I have an idea ready to go. People think doing a sequel is easy, but it’s not because you need the element of surprise. I’m going to try to do something that’s quite radical.”
Radical or not, seeing that crew of badasses lace up the boots once or twice more is something I think we can all get onboard with. Nah’mean?!?
But that’s not all on the Sly news front. You remember the long gestating POE biopic Stallone had been attached to write and direct for over 30 years now? Well, believe it or not, that project has life in it still.
Here’s what Stallone told MTV:
“I will direct it, but it’s never gonna live up to the hype…No matter what I do it’s going to bomb, totally. Totally! When you’ve been talking about something for 30 years, it’s impossible [to live up to those expectations].”
And speaking to Robert Downey Jr.’s one time involvement (now improbable due to scheduling), he continues:
“It has to be like Downey, I designed it for Downey…Perhaps I could re-work the script. [Maybe] Johnny Depp . It needs a very special actor like that.”
I’m with ya sly…although I think that, now that Downey has Sherlock Holmes under his belt, Big John Depp may be the best choice to play Poe.
