Cillian Murphy close to joining Seyfried and Timberlake for I’m.Mortal?

Irish actor Cillian Murphy (right) looks to be eschewing drag roles and Chris Nolan films for the moment, as he’s said to be the latest in negotiations to join Andrew Niccol’s sci-fi thriller I’M.MORTAL. The deal is very close to being done (so says THR), adding Murphy to the small cast that includes Justin Timberlake and the gorgeous Amanda Seyfried (below).

For those who’ve forgotten, I’M.MORTAL is set in the not-too-distant future, where the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality.

The protagonist is a poor young man (T-Lake) who comes into a fortune of time, though too late to help his mother from dying. He ends up on the run from a corrupt police force known as “time keepers.” Murphy will play a meticulous high officer in the Time Keepers organization, said to be “precise as the time he keeps.”

Not sure how you all feel, but I think the premise for I’M.MORTAL is better than the casting so far. I dig Seyfried and all, but between her and the two male leads…we’ve got a MAMA MIA star, an ex boy bander and an actor more androgynous than Lady Gaga in the house. Ya’know?!?

I’M.MORTAL opens sometime next year.
