We’ve been waiting seemingly eons for Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS to get rolling, and now it’s finally closer than it’s ever been – at least, that we’ve been privy to. Deadline.com is reporting that Seth Grahame-Smith, author of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” has been tapped to write the screenplay for SHADOWS, after winning Burton over with his screenplay for ABE LINCOLN, which Burton is producing.
Johnny Depp is still attached to play vampire Barnabus Collins in the flick, which is based on the 1966-71 t.v. series. The film is apparently slated to begin production in January of next year, with Depp’s Infinitum Nihil and Graham King’s GK Films producing.
As for Burton, he has a shit-ton of projects on his plate right now,. After the billion dollar success of ALICE IN WONDERLAND, he’s arguably at the peak of his career. It has seemed for all the world like his next project would be a feature-length FRANKENWEENIE film. Now with this development, who knows?
Meanwhile, the Deadline article mentions that Timur Bekmambetov, who has become a close Burton confidant, is circling ABE LINCOLN to direct. Bekmambetov spoke about ABE recently and seems very fond of it; still, he’s yet to sign on the dotted line.
When all these things fall into place, we’ll be the first to let you know!
