It’s been three weeks since we heard any rumblings out of the THE THING prequel camp, with our last update coming via word that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje had joined the cast. Worry not though folks. You see, our set visiting guru Eric Walkuski either has, or will be visiting the Toronto shoot of the film shortly, so stay posted for all kinds of THING goodies in the near future. Should kick ass!
But until then, it seems BoxOffice Mojo just gave word as to when we can actually see THE THING prequel in theaters. Wanna know when? Read on…
From Dutch filmmaker Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., THE THING is set at an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. While Dr. Halvorson keeps to his research, Kate partners with Sam Carter, a helicopter pilot, to pursue the alien life form.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (below), Joel Edgerton, Eric Christian Olsen, Ulrich Thomsen, Jonathan Walker, Kim Bubbs and a whole host of Norwegian thespians take part in the picture.
Now, on to the real news of this story. Universal Pictures will release THE THING into theaters April 29th, 2011. Almost a year to the date from when Warner Bros. put out A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Guess we’ll see which one culls more green. If we’re taking bets, I’d say the face-charred pedophile has the edge.
