For fans of Brittany Murphy (and for those who just casually liked her movies), last December was quite the shocker when she passed away. Now it’s some six months later, and Anchor Bay Entertainment is gearing up to release ABANDONED (her final film) on DVD and Blu-ray.

For those who are curious, ABANDONED goes a little something like this: Mary Walsh delivers boyfriend Kevin to a hospital for routine outpatient surgery. But when Mary returns to take him home, he’s mysteriously vanished. An administrator can find no record of him, and a police search turns up nothing. Increasingly frantic, Mary’s taken to staff psychiatrist Dr. Bensley, who pronounces her unstable. Now she must not only find her missing boyfriend, but prove her own sanity as well. When a stranger informs her he knows Kevin’s whereabouts and demands a $10 billion ransom, she has one hour to comply… and her boyfriend’s life hangs in the balance. Forced to embezzle the money from the bank where she works, Mary soon discovers the shocking truth behind the disappearance. Now time is running out and she must take matters into her own hands to save herself.

After spending some time in a hospital recently, the premise of this is all too real–and absolutely frightening. Co-starring Dean Cain, Mimi Rogers, and Peter Bogdanovich, the flick is set to hit home video on August 24, 2010, with no special features scheduled to be on the disc just yet.

You can check out the cover art below and see Murphy unlike herself, looking both a little too sickly and skinny than how we’re used to seeing her. Weird… Actually, without her name plastered on the cover, I’d probably have a hard time identifying who this chick is. How’s that for a legacy?

Be sure to PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY OF THE DVD or BLU-RAY today, and get ready for your last glimpse at Brittany Murphy in ABANDONED in stores everywhere August 24th.
