It was in October that we last updated you on the remake of THE ASPHYX, which had just been snatched up by UK production company Black and Blue Films. (The original was made in 1972.) It’s been quiet on that front since then, but the ghouls over at Dread Central have gotten some info on the flick, as well as some compelling concept art. (One piece can be peeped to the right.)

The site reports that Danny Dyer (SEVERANCE, DOGHOUSE) has been added to the film, which is about scientists trying to isolate the “Asphyx”, or Spirit of Death, in hopes that it will grant them immortality. Dyer joins the already-attached Alison Doody (pictured below). Of his new star, director Matthew McGuchan has the following to say: “He’s without a doubt the biggest star in the Brit indie film market, but he’s also an utterly compelling screen actor and he’s going to be at the top of his game in The Asphyx. His role is one that will really stretch him as an actor, and he’s going to surprise a lot of people. Danny and I both love horror movies, and we’ve both made some good ones and some bad ones — but The Asphyx has got to be a real cut above.”

The team behind this remake is also evidently remaking THE SORCERERS, a 1967 Boris Karloff flick that will also star Dyer. The plot concerns a hypnotist who is not only able to control the minds of his test subjects, but also experience their sensations.
