The Official Section of the SITGES 2010 – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia announced this morning that Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES will be having its Spanish premier at the festival this October.
UNCLE BOONMEE was this year’s Cannes Film Festival award winner, recipient of the Golden Palme Award, and buzz on this thing has gone through the roof. But what the hell is it all about? Check it:

Ok, so that’s not much to work off of, but as President of the Cannes’ Jury explains (the great Tim Burton), the film reveals to us not only a new conception of fantastic cinema… but also a dimension of film art as a multimedia expression to decipher a complex reality, where legends and realities, drama and parody, life and death, history and mythology all coexist. A fascinating interaction of mirrors and contrasted realities that Weerasethakul recreates through an original and revolutionary artistic conception.
Sounds trippy to me! Where can I sign up? Oh yeah… at this year’s SITGES 2010 Film Festival, that’s where! That, or it’s just a manner of time before wider distribution picks this badboy up and we’ll all be able to bask in it’s acid-heavy glow.
