Any fans of the 2005 short THE CALL FOR CTHULHU, based on the twisted musings of H.P. Lovecraft?
To those who answered a resounding YES, y’all are in luck. You see, it appears the team who brought us that flick, The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, is back with another low-budget Lovecraft adaptation, and this time they’re going all the way!
The new effort in question is called THE WHISPERER IN DARKNESS, a full length feature adaptation of a story Lovecraft wrote in 1930 and had published by Weird Tales in 1931. Here’s a quick Wiki rundown:
The story is told by Albert N. Wilmarth, an instructor of literature at Miskatonic University in Arkham. When local newspapers report strange things seen floating in rivers during a historic Vermont flood, Wilmarth becomes embroiled in a controversy about the reality and significance of the sightings, though he sides with the skeptics. Wilmarth uncovers old legends about monsters living in the uninhabited hills who abduct people who venture or settle too close to their territory.
Pretty damn solid, eh? Has shades of the Lochness Monster meeting THE HILLS HAVE EYES, which would be quite a handsome horror lovechild. What do ya think?
Sean Branney will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Andrew Leman. Stephen Blackehart, Lance J. Holt, Barry Lynch, Casey Kramer, Connor Timmis, Matt Lagan and Mike Dalager all star in the film.
