Looks like one of our oldest, most gargantuan cinematic baddies is getting the Blu-ray treatment!
Yup gang, it’s true. The original 1933 RKO version of KING KONG is making its debut on Blu-ray this fall, courtesy of Warners Home Video. You pumped or what?
Damn right you are! Who wouldn’t be? I mean, c’mon…a chance to see Fay Wray wrestle his way from the grips of the 8th Wonder of the World? In glorious Blu-ray? F*ckin’ epic!
But surely the new release won’t just simply boast a higher quality picture transfer, will it? Oh no. According to THR, the new disc will have all of the extras from the highly rated two-disc DVD special edition released in 2005 coinciding with the Peter Jackson remake.
The Blu-ray will also come equipped with a 32-page booklet featuring rare photographs and trivia and is written by film historian Rudy Behlmer, who apparently personally interviewed “Kong” creator Merian C. Cooper back in the day.
All dope shite, yo. I know that, just from a historical standpoint, it’ll be interesting to see one of the preeminent films of the 20th century come face to face with one of the most preeminent technologies of the turn of the century. Know what I mean?!?
So when can we nab a copy of KING KONG on Blu-ray? Why, September 28th, that’s when!
