Time for something a tad different here at AITH. We’re giving special notice to this intriguing, critically acclaimed tale of blood ties and mystery called WINTER’S BONE, which to me looks like a good old Southern gothic mystery… The film was an official selection of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival’s Dramatic Competition, was the recipient of the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award; which essentially means it won Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the fest. So the word is obviously good…
Here’s the plot breakdown: 17 year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) sets out to track down her father, who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails, Ree and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered up by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth.
The film also stars John Hawkes, Kevin Breznahan, Dale Dickey, Garret Dillahunt, Sheryl Lee and Tate Taylor. It opens in limited release on JUNE 11th.
