Earlier this month we gave y’all a heads up about a project called PAUL IS UNDEAD, which puts a zombified spin on The Beatles. Well, looks like the dude behind said project, Alan Goldsher, isn’t content on just one horror-pop culture mash-up. Oh no. According to MTV, Goldsher is bringing Elvis Presley back in the guise of…Frankenstein?
It’s true y’all! The project in question is titled FRANKENSTEIN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING, and while no word on cinematic adaptation has been muttered, it looks as if the odd pairing will first see the light in comic novel form (just like PAUL IS UNDEAD, which then DID go on to secure film adaptation rights).
Here’s what Goldsher had to say about the endeavor:
“Basically, instead of doing what I did with Paul Is Undead – taking the Beatles myth and applying zombie mythology on top of that – I am taking Frankenstein the book and rewriting it with Elvis Presley as the creature. The book takes place in the 1960s. It’s still the same format as the original tale, which is Dr Frankenstein is relating the story to the ostensible narrator.”
About the similarities between both players, Goldsher continues:
“There’s a big overlap with the Frankenstein story and the Elvis Presley story in that they’re both fabricated entities. Frankenstein’s creature is made from parts and Elvis was put together by really intelligent record label people. It could be argued that he was the first prefab artist. And then, both the creature and Elvis spent their lives looking for love and acceptance.”
FRANKENSTEIN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING is in its nascent stage, so don’t expect a release date for some time, comic version or otherwise.
