Shawn Levy’s robot-pugilist flick REAL STEEL has just added a pair of high rising thespians to support Hugh Jackman and cinematic son Dakota Goyo. In specific, THE HURT LOCKER’S Anthony Mackie (right) and “Lost’s” perennial looker Evangeline Lilly (below) have been tossed into the ring (so says Variety). Not a bad cast shaping up here, ay?

Adapted from Richard Matheson’ short story by Leslie Bohem and John Gatins, REAL STEEL is a future-set story where robot boxing is a popular sport and centered on a struggling promoter (Jackman) who thinks he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he also discovers he has an 11-year-old son (Goyo) who wants to know his father. Word is Mackie is set to play a fellow boxing promoter, while Lilly’s will play a longtime friend to Jackman’s character.

Kevin Durand is also taking part in the film, which will film in Detroit next month in time for a November 18, 2011 release.

Don’t know how you all feel, but going in to this story, the only real sway this project had on me was the involvement of Richard Matheson. Now that Lilly is strapping up the gloves…my interest in seeing the flick is now twofold.

What says you?
