It’s been quite a long time since we heard of any movement regarding UFO, the film adaptation of the 1970s British TV series. Ali Larter was in talks, and Joshua Jackson had come aboard, but there wasn’t much else to go on… Until now.
Via Variety, it would appear as though the flick is getting the boost it needs to blast off, with Pacific Transmedia Corp., a film fund and transmedia company headed by the legendary Robert Evans, helping the flick’s cause. The budget is a reported $130 million, and Pacific Transmedia will sell UFO at the Cannes Film Festival this month. Lensing is set to begin in November.
Veteran visual effects supervisor Matthew Gratzner will make his debut as director on UFO, which was penned by Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek. It revolves around SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization), a secret military operation battling an alien race that’s been kidnapping and killing humans for decades and using the body parts.
Gratzner has said that he envisions a trilogy. One thing you have to wonder is, with this new budget, will the filmmakers aim a little higher than Jackson and Larter for their leads? (No offense meant, guys…)
