Joseph Gordon Levitt reteams with Brick director for sci-fi thriller Looper?

It’s pretty clear Joseph Gordon Levitt (right) has emerged as one of the best actors of his generation. Who would of thought that the little bastard from “3rd Rock From the Sun” would become such a versatile performer? I’ll be honest, I all but hated Levitt back then. Yet somehow, after his turn in 2001’s MANIC, dude’s been stringing together one pearl after another, be it in BRICK, MYSTERIOUS SKIN, THE LOOKOUT, you name it. Now I’m a whole-hearted Levitt convert!

Now that I’m done fellating the man’s ego, let’s get back to the topic at hand. You heard me mention BRICK a second ago, right? Well it looks like Levitt is reuniting with BRICK’s director Rian Johnson for an outer-space voyage known as LOOPER. Peep it…

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, LOOPER is a science fiction thriller is set during a future in which time travel has been invented, with operatives sent back to the present to assassinate criminals. Gordon-Levitt will play a man sent back to kill himself.

Sounds pretty gnarly, ay? Seems like Duncan Jones’ MOON is having a positive ripple effect in the world of Hollywood sci-fi. Could be, pardon me, light years worse!

No deal has been inked, but it looks like there’s a good chance LOOPER will be Levitt’s next project after the David Koepp action thriller PREMIUM RUSH.
