Holy hell, this is some big news for [REC] fans! According to Variety, Filmax Entertainment has given the greenlight to not one but two more [REC] films, from Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero, who will co-develop the flicks but solo-direct one each. Work will commence once Balaguero wraps up his thriller SLEEP TIGHT (also known as FLATMATE).
[REC]: GENESIS, from Plaza, will explore the origins of the diabolic zombie mutant virus partially explained in [REC]2. Apparently it’s too early to say what the plot of the fourth film, titled [REC]: APOCALYPSE, concerns.
[REC]: GENESIS is scheduled to hit theaters fall 2011, with APOCALYPSE tentatively set for a fall 2012 bow.. Meanwhile, [REC]2, is coming to U.S. theaters in July.
That’s a lot of [REC]! While I’m hesitant to get too psyched about this (don’t those titles make you think of the RESIDENT EVIL franchise?), it’s still damn cool news for people who dig Plaza and Balaguero’s particular brand of scare tactics.
