While the Americanization of Swedish thriller THE GIRL WITH DRAGON TATTOO isn’t your typical AITH fare, the work of David Fincher is. Makes sense then, that we keep you in the loop with the man’s latest film as it nears production. Well, the flick is currently casting up, and Fincher recently reeled in an Oscar nominated young actress to anchor the film. Who? You already know…the lovely English ingénue Carey Mulligan (below), that’s who!
Wait, who? Who the hell’s Carey Mulligan? Such questions are actually warranted, given the fact Mulligan burst on the scene a mere five years ago in Joe Wright’s PRIDE & PREJUDICE. Since then, the 24 year old has appeared in PUBLIC ENEMIES and BROTHERS before garnering an Academy Award nod this past March for her work in Lone Scherfig’s AN EDUCATION. She’s also going to be seen in Oliver Stone’s WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, as well as Mark Romanek’s NEVER LET ME GO and John Madden’s MY FAIR LADY update. In short, this Mulligan girl has risen to leading lady, for some of the most accomplished filmmakers around. And now she’s adding David Fincher to her resume!

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
