After months of conjecture, it looks as though MEN IN BLACK III is really ready to happen. That is, if Showbiz 411 is to be believed. According to the site, Barry Sonnenfeld himself dropped that news that the film is moving forward with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones set to return as Agents Jay and Kay. A script – by Etan Cohen – is awaited, and the plan is to get it into theaters by May 2011. (Not much time, eh?) Of course, it will be released in 3D, although since the window is pretty small, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do convert it in post-production. Ugh.
There’s no mention of Josh Brolin, Sasha Baron Cohen or Jemaine Clement being involved; the three names had been rumored to be a part of the flick, but until there’s solid confirmation, all of this is rumor.
While I do think the flick could be cool (especially if they actually shot it in 3D), I just have to wonder if there’s really much interest in this property anymore. Plus, the second one sucks so hard…
