A notorious, real-life Australian horror story is making its way before cameras this year. Untitled for now, it’s based on an almost decade-long murder spree that ended in 1999; it’s widely known as The Bodies In The Barrels case. (It inspired the book “Killing for Pleasure”, the cover for which you see to the right.)
The story is based on Australia’s notorious Snowtown murders, referring to the murders of 12 people between 1992 and 1999 by a gang. Eight of the bodies were found in barrels of acid in an abandoned building in Snowtown, giving the case its grisly name. At least four people were implicated, although the main perpetrator was John Justin Bunting, who remains the continent’s most prolific serial killer.
The flick will be told from the point of view of a teenager who got caught up with the evil crew. Justin Kurzel will direct, from a script written by Shaun Grant. Warp Films and Madman will be producing.
