I can’t fully articulate why, but the little I’ve seen from John Landis’ star studded period horror remake BURKE AND HARE has not impressed. Why is this? The pedigree’s in place: Landis, Simon Pegg, Tim Curry, John Cleese, Andy Serkis, hell even Tom Wilkinson’s in this sumbitch. All of these things would seem to add up to nothing but awesomeness, right? Then why the hell am I not more pumped to see this sucker? Well, while I try to figure that shite out, I suggest you take a look at the first official still from the flick below!
Written by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft, BURKE AND HARE is based on the true story about the famous murderers, ‘Burke And Hare’ follows the hapless exploits of these two men as they fall into the highly profitable business of providing cadavers for the medical fraternity in Nineteenth Century Edinburgh, then the centre of medical learning. The one thing they were short of was bodies.
Isla Fisher, Jenny Agutter, Stephen Merchant, Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Hynes, Bill Bailey, Georgia King, David Schofield, Pollyanna McIntosh and David Hayman are some of the others among the principal cast.
So how do you guys feel about BURKE AND HARE? Is it a film you’re tracking closely? And what about John Landis? By my count, this is the first feature length narrative film he’s directed in 12 years. You think the man who once had the Midas box-office touch can recapture the magic? You think the man has another good film left in him?
