There’s been little movement on the DEAD@17 movie front since October, which was the last time we heard anything about the flick. At the time, Michael Dougherty (TRICK R TREAT) was in the mix to produce, but had denied any other involvement. Now MTV is backing him up with the news that the film adaptation of Viper comic book created by Josh Howard may have just attached a director: LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT‘s Dennis Iliadis.
The source of the news is Howard himself, who told MTV the following: “Last I heard, they had attached Dennis Iliadis as a director… And we’ve also set up some meetings at some studios that are interested in it. Right now, meetings are taking place with potential writers.”
Doesn’t seem like it’s official, but it’s some kind of progress. Maybe. Last we heard about Iliadis, he was involved in a horror flick concerning nasty kiddies called LESSON (read more on that HERE).
As for DEAD@17 (which I’ve never read), it was originally self-published by Howard, but grew to be a popular beast, spawning multiple miniseries. It concerns Nara Kilday, a murdered teenager who is resurrected to prevent the pending Apocalypse and fight demons. Vanessa Hudgens (pictured below) is rumored to be in talks to portray Nara.
