UPDATE: Deadline Hollywood is saying that Goldsman is actually just executive producing the film. Production apparently doesn’t begin until May.
Does PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 have a director? We had heard a few names bandied about last month, among them Brian De Palma, but if ShockTillYouDrop’s sources are correct, it will end up being Akiva Goldsman in the director’s chair. Apparently he’s the “frontrunner”, so it’s still not a done deal. But if it comes to fruition, Goldsman will be a most interesting choice – and not really for the right reasons. (It should be noted that Goldsman’s name did come up in an L.A. Times article last month, although they quickly wrote him off.)
Goldsman’s name for most fanboys is just one tier above Uwe Boll’s in the revulsion department. Known primarily for writing the two Joel Schumacher BATMAN films (yes, meaning he wrote Mr. Freeze’s dialog), he’s also contributed to notable missteps LOST IN SPACE, THE DA VINCI CODE, ANGELS AND DEMONS and I, ROBOT. He did win an Oscar, for 2001’s A BEAUTIFUL MIND, but that’s pretty much beside the point when considering his legacy.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 still has an October 22 release date, so they’d better get moving on this sucker fast! We’ll let you know when there’s solid confirmation either way regarding this story.
