Daybreakers bursting onto the DVD/Blu-Ray scene in May

I wasn’t overly enamored of The Spierig Brothers’ DAYBREAKERS; while it was a capable time-killer, it just didn’t capture my imagination, despite its awesome premise. It felt somewhat incomplete to me. Of course, I understand that budgetary restrictions always play a part in these things, but I walked away from the film wishing it had told a different story, like perhaps everything leading up to where we begin…

In any event, the film has just nabbed a DVD release date, and I think it might play a little better at home than it did in the theater. Maybe if it’s very successful, we’ll get a sequel and/or a prequel, which I think could be very cool (and I don’t normally think that about prequels).

In-depth bonus materials include the featurette, “Making of Daybreakers,” audio commentary with the directors and special effects creator Steve Boyle, a poster gallery and the theatrical trailer.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray Disc is an extended feature-length version of the “Making of Daybreakers” that spans the filmmaking process, a short film from the directors entitled “The Big Picture,” Bonus View™ Storyboard and Animatics film comparison and a second disc containing digital copy.

DAYBREAKERS will hit the home video market on MAY 11th. The film stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan and Isabel Lucas (pictured below).
