Last month I told you that Joel Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment was on the verge of acquiring SPLICE, the Sundance hit directed by Vincenzo Natali and produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Looks as if that deal went down, because Box Office Mojo is reporting that Warner Bros. (which distributes Dark Castle’s projects) will be releasing the sci-fi thriller on JUNE 4th.
This slots SPLICE up against KILLERS, MARMADUKE and GET HIM TO THE GREEK, three flicks no one should really give a f*ck about. The film will get a wide release and won’t have much competition in its genre – although George Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD will open in limited release the week before. Should be interesting to see how this weird little flick is marketed – and how it’s received.
SPLICE stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as two young rebellious scientists, who defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named “Dren”, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators – only to have that bond turn deadly.
