Most producers are confidant, but this is pretty extreme. And very shrewd… Bollywood filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has offered 500,000 rupees (approximately $10,850 US) to the one person who proves they can sit through his film PHOONK 2 in a theater – alone.

The horror flick, a sequel to Varma’s successful 2008 PHOONK, is about an evil spirit that traumatizes a family. It has an APRIL 9th release date in Varma’s native India. (Though he helmed the first one, the sequel was directed by Milind Gadagkar.)

Varma’s challenge extends to the first fan who steps up to the plate; they will be wired up to a heart monitoring machine as well as a camera that ensures they keep their eyes open during the whole movie. Readings from the machines will be shown live on a screen outside the cinema, Varma said, and if the contestant succeeds, they will win 500,000 rupees.

It gets even more interesting when you consider that Varma issued the same challenge with the release of the first PHOONK. The contestant ran out of the theater after 30 minutes – but there were allegations Varma rigged the charade. The heart monitors and cameras are now there to prove Varma means business.

Say what you will about this, it’s providing PHOONK 2 some buzz. I mean, look, I’m writing about it right now! Check out the trailer below – we’ll keep an eye on this and see how it plays out.
