Earlier today Ammon loped you all with a domestic one-sheet for Michael Winterbottom’s polemic new thriller THE KILLER INSIDE ME, and wouldn’t ya know it…we just snatched another poster as well as a handful of fresh stills from the joint!
Though met with general praise at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Winterbottom’s new film is said to be a polarizing tale about a West Texas deputy sheriff (Casey Affleck) who is slowly unmasked as a psychotic killer (read our man Chris Bumbray’s superlative review HERE).
Of all the following images, I dig the poster and the shot of Affleck in the doorway most. Simple yet haunting…these shots speak volumes without having to utter a word. Besides, we all know that’s a Philly wrapped with the finest Texas Kush that there Affleck is puffin’ on!
In all seriousness, this movie intrigues on many fronts. First off, Winterbottom, a British director who has brought us some of the toughest documentaries in recent years (THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, ROAD TO GUANTANAMO), almost always tackles difficult subject matter, so you know this ain’t for the faint of heart. Also, something should be said for Casey Affleck, who clearly gets better and more comfortable with each new role he assumes. Plus, this is the first film he’s acted in since two impressive turns in 2007 (GONE BABY GONE, THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES…), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out swingin’!
The screenplay for THE KILLER INSIDE ME is adapted from the Jim Thompson novel by Winterbottom and fellow writer-director John Curran (STONE, THE PAINTED VEIL).
The flick also boasts an A-list roster of players, including Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Simon Baker, Elias Koteas, Eric Walkus…I mean Bill Pullman, and the great Ned Beatty.
