Darren Lynn Bousman’s baby, REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA, was in my eyes a very unique picture. Not perfect by any means (hell, not even “good” all of the time), but different and weird enough to merit some half-recommendations on my part. Am I anxious for another one? Not a whole lot. But, naturally, Bousman is, and apparently he’s gearing up to return to the REPO universe.
In a facebook status update last night, Bousman hinted that he’s got another REPO waiting in the wings: “had a great meeting with Terrance last night… as I have always said REPO is far from over! And lasts nights meeting confirmed that!”
(The “Terrance” Darren refers to in the update is presumably Terrance Zdunich, REPO’s co-writer and “Grave Robber”.)
And that’s all, so you can start playing the guessing game. Personally, I seriously doubt that there will ever be another REPO movie – not counting the remake 20 years from now. The film was treated like a bastard by Lionsgate, and though it has a following, it would probably need a budget of $1 million to be profitable. (Not being mean, just pragmatic.) Perhaps Bousman is talking about a stage sequel? A graphic novel? Web series?
