This summer, teenage girls everywhere are going to get their eyeballs almost literally f*cked out of their sockets. As if Robert Pattinson’s hair weren’t ridiculously big enough, Summit Entertainment announced today that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will be hitting IMAX as well as conventional theaters come JUNE 30th, 2010. Though it was shot using regular cameras, the David Slade-directed flick will be digitally re-mastered for the “Ultimate IMAX Experience”.
Seems like every movie is getting the IMAX treatment nowadays, so it’s no huge deal that TWILIGHT is jumping on the bandwagon – but I have to wonder if the series, which has a particularly cheap, bland atmosphere, will really benefit from the upgrade. Of course, the real reason for this is to charge a few extra bucks, but as the films are made with reasonable budgets, they’re already making tons of bank. Do we really need to see the lame sparkling on a 50 foot high screen?
In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob – knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.
