It’s been a long time coming for a DVD release of CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. Let’s just all be thankful the damn project is finally seeing the light of day (remember, director Ti West has already shot and released his follow up film, the 80s nostalgia piece THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL).
But enough suspense, you want to know when the SPRING FEVER can be seen, don’t-cha? Well, not quite spring, but the DVD (as well as a Blu-ray version of the 2002 original) finally shelves on February 16, 2010.
As far as a plotline goes for the sequel to Eli Roth’s feature debut, we get going:
Days after a killer virus consumed his friends; Paul emerges from a ditch by a river. Though his body has been ravaged by the virus, he is determined to survive and to warn others of the danger. However, a water bottling plant has already distributed contaminated water to the local high school. The school’s students are excitedly preparing for the prom, unaware they’re about to have a grisly date with death.
Righteous!
No telling how much of West’s initial vision will be onscreen, as he explained on our podcast about a month ago, he had a much darker, offbeat Todd Solondz, Paul Bartel kind of vibe going, which Lionsgate was none too thrilled with I suppose (West largely disowned the film as a result).
In terms of disc specs, looks like we’ll be met with:
• Audio commentary with actors Mark Borchardt and Giuseppe Andrews
• “Blood Gag” reel
• Special effects makeup featurette
Not too shabby a bonus lineup considering we thought we’d never even see this film. Ever.
