Paranormal 2 closer?

So it’s no surprise – knowing how the world, especially the business world, works – that Paramount has designs on further profiting from the huge success of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY by developing a sequel. Up until now, it has just seemed like conjecture, because of course they would think to do another one, even though, really, where can you go with it?

As of today, it sounds a little more likely that, by next year, things will really get rolling on PA2 (as the teaser poster will no doubt call it). In a conference call, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman (Viacom is Paramount’s parent company) dropped the following: “Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach.”

Not a whole lot, but when you look at the phrasing: “Our team WILL come up with…” Well, that makes it sound like they’re really planning on this, wouldn’t you say?

Of course, it’s still very early, and we know nothing else at this point. Director Oren Peli is shooting AREA 51 in Utah right now, so it should be a little while before he’s available again. That said, would it surprise you if they’re tentatively planning a HALLOWEEN 2010 release?
