Park sharpens an Ax

I guess even a great director like Chan-Wook Park isn’t above doing a remake. It would seem as though the man behind the splendid VENGEANCE TRILOGY and this summer’s bizarre vampire flick THIRST has chosen his next project, a remake of 2005’s LE COUPERET (THE AX), which is a serious drama about a desperate, unemployed man who is forced to kill off his competitors until he gets his job back. (You can see a still from the film above.)

The director of the original, Costa-Gavras, confirmed the news at a South Korean film festival recently, saying: “I was glad to hear that Park, who has made political genre films, wants to remake my film.”

Knowing Park, there will be an ample dose of black humor added to the grim story, as is simply the director’s way. I can’t wait to see what the man cooks up next, as he proves time and time again that he’s one of the genuine visionaries working in cinema today.
