New DB poster!

Onscreen vampires these days are no doubt flirting with overexposure (adnauseum to some), but if anything can combat the modern hordes of sissified bloodsuckers, it’s the lethal combo of Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke and Sam Neil in next years DAYBREAKERS (in theaters January 8, 2010).

From the German twins Michael and Peter Spierig (UNDEAD, CAPTAIN BLOOD) comes the futuristic genre mishmash about vampires comprising the majority of the population.

Furthermore, the story is set:

In the year 2019, and a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.

Well I have faith! Sure this plotline is trending toward what we’ve seen recently, namely vampires being integrated into society and the ramifications surrounding such. But I do have faith.

The new poster seems to be pushing the sci-fi elements of the flick over the more striking, blood-red poster initially released. This one’s kinda like SURROGATES meets THE MATRIX meets A.I. No?

What do you think – can DAYBREAKERS be a return to hard, take no shit vampires or will it align with wan, lovelorn whiners that appeal to prepubescent tweeners?
