Stan Winston auction!

You’d be hard-pressed to find a talented professional in the world of make-up/visual effects than Stan Winston. He, along with Rick Baker and perhaps Dick Smith, are the holy triumvirate of the vocation.

The man was a true pioneer, which makes his premature passing last year all the more disheartening. The man lost his bout with cancer at the age of 62, but we have a feeling around here his achievements in cinema will endure for a much longer stretch of time.

And now thanks to Profiles in History, all you filthy rich mofos can take a part in cool-ass auction where:

They will present 85 lots of props, costumes and set pieces-some of them enormous in size-from films including the Jurassic Park, Terminator and Predator franchises, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and many more.

This unprecedented sale will be part of Profiles in History’s Hollywood memorabilia auction taking place October 8-9, 2009.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items will fund the new Stan Winston Visual Effects Scholarship at the University of Southern California Film School. Worldwide bidding begins at 12:00 PM (noon) both days and can be placed either in person, via mail, phone, fax or live on the Internet HERE.

Not that I like to shill for comfortable Hollywood folk, or even deem USC in vast need, but this Stan Winston we’re talking about here. The man is a legend. He was when alive, he remains posthumously. A legend.
