Savini does Death Island

All world F/X maven and true connoisseur of the macabre Tom Savini is reprising a duty he’s been away from since 1990. Directing features!

According to Enigma Films (via Fangoria), Savini is fixing his directorial eye on a flick called DEATH ISLAND – a zombie flick that according to KNB effects man Greg Nicotero, is “one of the most gruesome zombie scripts I’ve ever read.”

Of course Savini remade NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1990 and vowed never to retackle the undead subgenre unless something truly special came along. DEATH ISLAND could very well be that special project!

So says Rick Danford of Enigma, the flick sees: “A B-movie director who sets off with his cast and crew for some location shooting on a small island just off the coast of Haiti. The locals call it Il Du Mort—Death Island. The place provides the perfect scenery for the shots they need. But when some of the cast begin to go missing, those remaining find themselves in a battle for their very lives against an island of the undead.”

Despite being an unconditional Savini loyalist, this sounds suspiciously similar to Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD crossed with DIARY OF THE DEAD to me. What do you think?

With financing recently secured, casting and location scouting are currently taking place. You’ll know more when we do!
