Eclipse to be gory/dark?

Being a man, I really have no interest in the TWILIGHT stories, save for some morbid curiosity. I have no idea what the hell happens in the second chapter, NEW MOON, other than what I can gather from the trailer: Edward’s a puss who runs away, Bella flips out, Michael Sheen looks like he’s going to a costume party… The End… Well, I guess not, because there are at least two more entries in the (gulp) franchise.

Let’s just fast-forward to ECLIPSE. The third TWILIGHT story will be directed by David Slade, which makes it considerably more appealing to us real horror fans, as this guy directed the bloody thrillers HARD CANDY and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. (He was also open to ridiculing TWILIGHT before, you know, he got paid lots of money to direct one.) If actress Ashley Greene (pictured) is to be believed, there’s a good reason the series is turning to this dude to helm ECLIPSE. (If you don’t know who Greene plays in the series… uh.. I can’t help you.)

Speaking to MTV, Greene says: “I think it’ll be different. He’s … a little more focused on it being real and maybe it being gorier and a little dark and kind of dramatic.”

“The first one was very focused on this love story and really sweet and it was beautiful, but it didn’t have a lot of stuff that guys would go, ‘Yeah, I want to go see that’. There’s going to be a lot more focus on [action], and the fight scenes will have more emphasis on it. I definitely think it will be a little more guy-friendly.”

Of course, it’s probably too late for any of us to get really excited about this. We know it’ll still be PG-13, and we know it’s main selling point will still be the endlessly long glares between its two dull stars. Rejoice.
