Even with a runtime of over 2 hours (an oft-horror faux pas), Warner Brothers’ recent demonic-child tale ORPHAN still stands as one of the surprise critical and commercial hits of the year. Not only does the film boast a pretty shocking revelation late in the story, the flick is anchored by truly solid performances by its two leads, Vera Farmiga (below) and Peter Sarsgaard (not to mention the child actors).
And now we can all brace ourselves for an apt October 27 release, just in time to nab a copy before Halloween. The flick will hit DVD and Blu-ray loaded with deleted scenes, and alternate ending, a making of featurette called Mama’s Little Devils: Bad Seeds, Evil Kids and Orphan. The flick will also be transferred digitally, but you have to cop the Blu-ray disc to enjoy such a perk.
For those who missed ORPHAN’s premise, the flick finds a bereaved but affluent couple dealing with the loss of a child. As a result, they decide to adopt a precocious 9 year old Russian girl who, as time passes, seems to be the culprit for all kinds of weird shit going down around the house. At first glance it’s THE GOOD SOON with a gender reversal, but watch the thing closely, there’s a whole lot more going down.
